Businesses urged to use BID vote

Businesses are being urged to use their vote on whether Plymouth's waterfront should become a Business Improvement District (BID).

Around 650 firms are being balloted on the plans, which would see them paying a levy for a greater say on how the area is run.

There are just a few days left until the ballot closes and those behind the BID say they're on track for a 50 percent turnout.

The board say they are preparing to hit the ground running - if firms do vote in favour, they'll start booking events to be held in Plymouth from April.

Some publicans have said events like the America's Cup meant they lost business, as it brought its own beer and food tents.

Chair of the Waterfront Partnership David Wheeler says that wouldn't be the case in any future events because they would have more time to plan and make sure any events booked would benefit local traders.

The ballot closes on Friday.
