Campaigners against incinerator want judicial review

Campaigners against the incinerator planned for Devonport say they want a judicial review on the issue.

They are holding a public meeting tonight at seven in the St Budeaux Community Hall.

The scheme was given the go ahead by city planners just before Christmas.

However, the Incineration is Wrong chair Rob Keats says anaerobic waste disposal and more recycling could mean the incinerator just isn't needed.

The anaerobic digestion plant cannot deal with as much waste as an incinerator and the South West Devon Waste Partnership has argued that an incinerator is the most feasible solution to divert waste away from landfill.

Campaigners believe it will damage their health, the environment and that city councillors didn't listen to the views of local people.

MVV still need the final go ahead from the Environment Agency before they can operate the plant. They hope to start building work in the spring.
