Court told Plymouth man murdered last year was working for criminal gang

A Plymouth man murdered and buried in a Cornish field was an 'enforcer' for a drug gang, a court has heard.

David Griffiths was shot along with fellow drug dealer Brett Flournoy.

Their bodies were discovered buried on farmland near St Austell in June last year.

28 year old Thomas Haigh and 26 year old Ross Stone are charged with the double murder of the men, whose bodies were found at a small holding at Trenance Downs.

Both deny the allegations.

Stone has admitted putting the bodies inside a van and pushing them into a pit and setting them alight before burying the hole.

Prosecutors argue Haigh and Stone were in debt to Mr Flournoy and Mr Griffiths - and because they were being threatened, they formed an alliance to get rid of them.

Yesterday, Stone's friend Richard Hawke gave evidence to Truro Crown Court - he said he had put Stone in touch with Mr Griffiths because he needed help with his own drug debts.

Mr Hawke told the court, Stone had bought 30-thousand pounds worth of drugs from Mr Griffiths, which were later stolen but Mr Griffiths still wanted the money.

The court heard Mr Griffiths had his own drug debts - a friend of his, Andrew Hedley, claimed 'he owed a traveller 20 to 30 thousand pounds.

The trial continues.

That report was filed by the Western Morning News' Petra Mann.
