Devonport struggling to fund events after regeneration company ends

Some of Devonport's big annual events are being cancelled because the money to fund them simply isn't there, according to the former chair of the area's regeneration company.

The DRC closed down in March after its ten years of government funding came to an end - it employed more than thirty staff.

Two community trusts were set up in its wake to try and continue its work, but local firms say this first year without it has been tough.

The area was given fifty million pounds in 2000 and it's estimated it generated more than three hundred million pounds worth of investment.

It means their usual Christmas event at Brickfields and theMArlborough street lights switch on are unlikely to take place.
