Draft budget published by Plymouth City Council

Plymouth's community services will have to make almost half of the eight million pounds of savings required by the city council over the next financial year.

A draft budget for 2012 to 13 has been published and it will be finalised in February.

It means  almost four million pounds of  savings for adult social care and environmental services.

Children's services must save a million and back office services more than two million.

Housing and transport will receive much smaller cutbacks, with the Chief Executive's office only having to make savings of one hundred and forty one thousand pounds.

Councillor Ian Bowyer has said this is because the budgets for departments like children's services are much bigger and so the cuts appear greater.

Further redundancies haven't been ruled out and there are likely to be further changes to the senior management structure.

Around 250 of the 500 posts to go have now been removed.
