Former Navy medic speaks out after refusing to attend weapons training

A British sailor who was jailed for refusing to fight in Afghanistan will be in Plymouth tonight to share his story.

Michael Lyons was a leading medical assistant in the navy but he was court-martialled and imprisoned when he refused to carry out rifle training in preparation for a deployment to Afghanistan.

He'd claimed he was a conscientious objector.

Mr Lyons served a seven month sentence and was released in November 2011.

Tonight, he'll speak at a Stop the war coalition meeting in Plymouth - it starts at 7pm at the Quaker House on Mutley Plain.
