Men jailed for Whitleigh shooting

Two men have been jailed for an armed robbery in Plymouth in which a local businessman was shot in the stomach.

45 year old Gary Ball and 43 year old Mark Gagen have been convicted of robbery, causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm.

Ball was sentenced to 18 years in jail and Gagen to 16 - they must both serve a minimum of half their sentence.

Colin Pester was shot at his home in Whitleigh in April 2008 - Gagen was the gunman, but Ball then robbed the Pesters of watches and jewellery worth thousands of pounds.

Mr Pester has since had eighteen operations and says his ten year old son, who witnessed the incident, is still deeply traumatised.

The family now rent a property elsewhere so that he doesn't have to live or sleep in the family home. He also now attends a school for children with special needs.
