Peter Ridsdale resigns from Plymouth Argyle to take job at Preston

Plymouth Argyle's chairman of football operations Peter Ridsdale has announced he is leaving to take up a post at Preston.

Mr Ridsdale has been with the club since they went into administration in March.

Peter Ridsdale was named as chair of footballing operations when Devon businessman James Brent took over the football club in October.

Many fans had mixed views about his initial appointment, but he worked with the club through its administration period and says it is now in the hands of the right owner.

Mr Ridsdale has been offered the job of chairman at Preston and says it was an offer he couldn't turn down, as it allows him to return to his family home.

In a statement he adds working with Argyle through the dark days of administration was his toughest challenge in football...and thanks staff and fans for the warm welcome they gave him.

Owner of the club James Brent said that without Peter the club probably wouldn't exist and that he leaves with his grateful thanks.

A recruitment consultant will now be engaged to look for a replacement.
