Plans for 'befriending' service for Plymothians with dementia

There are well over a thousand people living with dementia in Plymouth and a local charity needs volunteers to help them get out and about.

The Alzheimers society wants to launch a befriending service in the city - 30 similar schemes already exist around the country.

It could mean helping them with shopping, givng a carer time to themselves or just going out for a walk together.

Susan Lawrence from the Alzheimers society says the impact of dementia is wide ranging - it can result in isolation.

There are a number of drop in events for potential volunteers at the Alzheimers society's office on Scott Road in Plymouth.
