Plymothians pay tribute to local marine killed in Afghanistan

Plymothians gathered to pay their respects to a local marine killed in Afghanistan yesterday.

Sam Alexander was killed by an improvised explosive device at the end of May.

A full military funeral took place at St Andrews church, along with a marines' guard of honour.

Sam leaves behind his wife Claire  and ten month old son Leo - he died alongside Lieutenant Ollie Augustin, also from 42 Commando.

Marine Alexander was awarded the military cross in 2009 for saving a wounded colleague.
