Plymouth at centre of new marine energy park

Plymouth is to become the centre of a new marine energy park which could generate tens of millions for the local economy.

Energy minister Greg Barker will meet with the city council and business leaders in Bristol today to launch the initiative, which will cover the whole south west.

The idea is to create a business park to rival Silicone valley in California, although initially it would be based around a number of sites like the university and Babcock.

The park would try to find new ways to harness tidal and hydroelectric energy from the region's coasts and waterfalls.
