Plymouth heads likely to strike, say NAHT

There's a 'strong liklihood' that Plymouth members of the head teachers union will vote in favour of strike action.

That from the city's National Association of Head Teachers, which is balloting its members over changes to their pensions.

Other unions like the NUT and the ATL have already voted for a day of co-ordinated strike action in November.

From April next year, the government wants public sector pensions to be based on average salary instead of the final career salary, which would affect senior teachers most severely.

If members of the NAHT vote to strike, it would be the first time in the union's 114 year history but Vince Burke from Plymouth's branch says it's not a decision they're taking lightly.

In the summer, a day of action closed 60 Plymouth schools either partially or completely and if head teachers strike, that could mean even more closures in November.
