Plymouth olympic hopeful Kathryn Endacott to open sporting fair

Plymothians are being encouraged to try out a new sport at a community fair today.

The university's hosting it to celebrate the city's sporting successes and get locals more active.

City sprinter Katherine Endacott will officially open the event alongside weightlifter Michaela Breeze.

Katherine's currently training for the Olympic trials in the summer, which will decide if she can compete at London 2012.

She first tried athletics at the age of 11 and has said this is a great opportunity to get young people in particular involved in sport.

The fair runs from 4pm to 8pm.
