A South Devon MP has given his backing to an alternative proposal .. which has been drawn up by officials at the Brixham Coastguard Station ...and would save the site from closure.

It's one of a number of stations which could be shut down, under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency's modernisation plans.

They've attracted widespread criticism - with concern raised about the safety of those out at sea in South Devon and the loss of 23 local jobs.

The proposal involves modernising the existing station rather than closing it down entirely.

Liberal Democrat Adrian Sanders has said he will keep campaigning.
