Stalemate over city council overtime pay

Union members in Plymouth say they hope they can reach an agreement on overtime pay with the city council.

The city council urged the unions to 'come to their senses' on Friday after the GMB and Unison rejected a deal which would see their contractual overtime removed and the working week extended.

The city council says it has to save eighteen million pounds over three years and that the deal was drawn up to try and avoid more job losses.

But the GMB says in 2008, it was agreed that any employee losing their contractual overtime would get a payout equivalent to one year's overtime - they say they won't sign until this has been discussed further.
