Two unions refuse to sign deal with city council to lose overtime pay

City council workers in Plymouth will keep their contractual overtime pay for now, as two of the three unions have voted against the proposals.

GMB and Unison have refused to ratify the deal, arguing that under a previous deal ,staff should receive a payout to compensate them for losing their overtime pay.

Unite did ratify, as not enough of their members voted in favour of industrial action.

The deal would also have meant the standard working week would be Monday to Saturday 6am to 8pm.

The city council says the delay in agreeing the deal has already cost them more than three hundred thousand pounds since April and that they proposed the deal to try and prevent more jobs being lost.
