Unions will not talk with city council this weekend over pay deal

Unions in Plymouth say they won't be meeting the city council this weekend to discuss a deal on overtime pay, as it wouldn't be productive.

Yesterday Unison and the GMB revealed that they had refused to sign a deal which would see them lose their contractual overtime pay.

They say under a previous agreement, they had been promised a pay out if this overtime was ever removed.

The unions say they were offered a meeting this weekend by the city council, but declined because the local authority had said it wouldn't change its proposals.

Cabinet member for finances Ian Bowyer urged the unions to come to their senses in a statement, adding that the deal was put forward to try and prevent further job losses.
