Gavin Marshall
I was born in the early 70's at Freedom Fields Hospital and, for the first time in my life, I'm starting to enjoy the fact that I look younger than I am.
I grew up at 25 Lisson Grove in Mutley, which is the road with Goodbody's Diner at the top ("Goodies" to those who went there). Ours was an old house that had massive bay windows. I remember that so well because of the day I threw a stone in the garden and it ended up in the lounge. Mum wasn't happy.
My first school was Hyde Park Infants, but when I was 7 we moved to Saltash, and for the next decade I went through the motions at Burraton Primary, and then Saltash Comprehensive ("Weirde School" to those who went). I say I went through the motions because from as young as I can remember, all I was interested in was radio. Instead of homework I used to spend my time in my bedroom pretending I was on the radio. Sad? Well, maybe... but thankfully it paid off and I've spent most of my career in radio.
Sadly I haven't got much more room on the page, so I'll save my anecdotes of living in Millbrook, working at The Harbour Lights in Torpoint ("The Lights" to those who went) and turning on the Christmas Lights outside the Guildhall for another time, except to say that I'm really looking forward to us getting to know each other on Saturday mornings when I present the breakfast show from 6-10am.
